Advertiser Staff

Hokule'a and her escort boat Kama Hele left uto Marina

in Kumamoto at about 10:00 am this morning Hawai'i

time, after a departure ceremony involving hundreds of school children, a spokeswoman said.

The crew of Hokule'a presented to the children letters written in kanji from Hawaiian immersion students in Hilo.

Hokule'a Captain and navigator Chad Baybayan said they

are stopping overnnight tonight in a rural fishing

community called Nobosaki, 15 miles away from

Uto. On Monday, they will continue on to Nagasaki,

where they should arrive before sunset.
