Big Island police seek help on fatal hit-and-run

Advertiser Staff Writer

Big Island traffic investigators are seeking public assistance in locating the driver and vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident March 14 in Mountain View.

Raymond L. Carvalho IV, 34, of Mountain View, was walking north on North Kulani Road when he was struck by what police suspect is a blue 1999-2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck or a blue 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban traveling north at 10:44 p.m.

Police would like to question a man and woman who were seen near a vehicle matching that general description at the Mountain View post office shortly after the crash.

Anyone with information about the identity of the man or woman at the post office should contact Officer Norbert Serrao at 961-8118, the police non-emergency number at 935-3311, or Big Island CrimeStoppers in Hilo, 961-8300, or Kona, 329-8181.
