No. 1 Wildcats, Ka Makani win BIIF basketball titles

Jazzmin Awa-Williams scored 29 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the top-ranked and top-seeded Konawaena High School girls basketball team to a 56-33 win over third-seeded Honoka'a in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I tournament final on Saturday at Konawaena.

Keisha Kanekoa led seventh-ranked Honoka'a (12-3) with 15 points, but was limited to just four points in the second half.

Mana Hopkins added 12 points for the Wildcats (14-0). Both teams had already earned berths to the state tournament prior to Saturday's game.

Also at Konawaena's Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium, freshman Tyler Wang scored 16 points to help second-seeded Hawai'i Prep upset top-seeded Kamehameha Hawai'i 40-37 in the BIIF Division II final.

It is the first league title for Ka Makani (9-5).

Tabitha Eseroma and Kanisha Bello led the Warriors (11-3), who won the previous two league titles, with 12 points each.

Both teams had already earned berths to the state tournament prior to Saturday's game.
