Waimanalo Beach comfort station to close for repairs

Advertiser Staff

The City will close the Waimanalo Beach Park campsite comfort station for nine days this month in order to prepare it for the busy summer season. The comfort station will reopen in time for the Memorial Day Weekend.

The comfort station will be closed from 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, and reopen at 8 a.m. Friday, May 25. The rest of the park will remain open for public use.

The comfort station will undergo a make-over that includes:

·   Repairing and replacing fixtures.

·  New paint.

·  Application of a sealant to make the facility easier to keep clean.

·  Other minor repairs.

"This is part of our just-in-time maintenance program, where we concentrate our resources to perform intensive work on a particular park or facility," said Lester Chang, director of the Department of Parks and Recreation. "Waimanalo Beach Park gets a lot of use each summer, and we need to get this work done before the season starts. During this project, portable rest-rooms and the park's other permanent comfort station will be available for public use."

City camping permits for the period that includes the Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-28, 2007, will be issued beginning May 11.
