Pair busted for moped and ID thefts

By Rod Ohira

A hotel security officer's alertness led to the arrest of two people yesterday on suspicion of moped and identity thefts, and multiple counts of drug possession.

A 33-year-old Ma'ili woman and man, 39, who has no permanent local address were arrested at a Pawa'a-area hotel at 4:37 a.m. after security saw them park mopeds on hotel property that appeared to be stolen.

It turned out that one of the mopeds was reported stolen while the other had a defaced identification number.

Police went to question the suspects in their hotel room and found drugs and paraphernalia in plain view.

The couple were each booked for auto theft, two counts each of second- and third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia, and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
