Local FBI office welcomes new special agent in charge

The Honolulu division of the FBI welcomed a new special agent in charge today.

Janet L. Kamerman was named to the position on Feb. 27. Prior to coming to Honolulu, she was a special assistant to FBI director Robert S. Mueller III in Washington, D.C. In this position, Kamerman provided counsel to the director on a variety of policy and administrative matters, according to the FBI.

Kamerman also served as an assistant special agent in charge of the Washington, D.C., field office, as unit chief and supervisor at FBI headquarters, as a supervisor in the Houston field office and as an investigative agent in the Houston field office.

During her field assignments, Kamerman worked a variety of investigative matters including organized crime/narcotics, international terrorism, and white-collar crime investigations and as a surveillance agent on the special operations group, according to the FBI.

A 17-year FBI veteran, Kamerman joined the FBI in July 1989.

Prior to entering the FBI, Kamerman served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer.

Kamerman earned a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice from the University of Delaware in Newark, Del.
