Unconscious man in police cellblock dies

Advertiser Staff Writer

A 51-year-old man died yesterday after being found unconscious and unresponsive in his cellblock at the main police station.

The man, who is 5-feet-11 and 250 pounds, was discovered at 5 p.m. and died at Straub Clinic & Hospital's emergency room 40 minutes later.

The medical examiner's office today did not release the man's name until his identity is confirmed. Cause of death is deferred.

The man, who has no permanent local address, was arrested Friday on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants totaling $1,900.The arrest was made at 724 Kailua Road at 5:40 p.m.

He has 17 prior convictions, according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records.
