Box jellyfish warning issued for Thursday, Friday

The Ocean Safety Division advises people, especially those allergic to stings, to stay out of the water.
The most commonly affected area is Waikiki Beach, particularly on the 'ewa end of the Kapahulu groin.
Other near-shore waters that may see box jellyfish include Hanauma Bay, Poka'i Bay, Makaha Surfing Beach and Waimea Bay. There have been occasional sightings and/or stings on other north- and west-shore beaches. Warning signs will be posted.
Last month the city closed Hanauma Bay after lifeguards reported a high number of box jellyfish stings. Several people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Those stung by box jellyfish are advised to flush the area with copious amounts of white vinegar.
Anyone who is stung and experiences difficulty breathing, muscle cramps or spasms or persistent pain should seek immediately medical attention.
