A tip led to the arrest of a fugitive about five hours after he was featured on a CrimeStoppers bulletin today.

John L. Borges, 38, was arrested cat 7:05 p.m. without incident at 1946 Ala Moana.

Borges was wanted on a probation revocation warrant and is a suspect in an auto theft case, police said.

On March 14 at about 12:30 p.m., Borges was identified as the driver of a stolen car involved in a motor vehicle collision, police said. Borges is believed to have suffered a broken left ankle in the accident.

Motorcycle owners warned of thefts

Police are warning motorcycle owners to guard their vehicles in light of a recent island-wide rash of motorcycle thefts.

Police did not say how many thefts have occurred nor did they say when they took place. There have been reports of stolen motorcycles from shopping centers and residential areas, police said.

In many cases, the suspects used a pickup truck or van and loaded up the motorcycles before driving away.

Motorcycle owners are cautioned to properly secure their vehicles by using heavy-duty locks or chains and securing the vehicle to a fixed object, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on your cellular phone.
