Aircraft reports beam by laser pointer

By Rod Ohira
Advertiser Staff Writer

Honolulu police received a report tonight of a laser pointer being directed at an approaching aircraft in the area of White Plains beach at Kalaeloa.

The Federal Aviation Administration notified police at about 9:30 p.m.

City and federal officials have investigated at least four reports of green laser pointers being directed at aircraft this year.

The Coast Guard is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to identifying suspects in its investigation into green laser incidents at John Rodgers Field at Kalaeloa.

Anyone with information can call Coast Guard Investigative Services at 541-2301.
