Parent drops off child, drives into house

A mother who had just dropped off her child at Moanalua High School ended up driving through the fence of the school's parking lot and onto the roof of a home lying below on Ala Pili Loop.

The 45-year-old driver of the Jeep was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in stable condition after the crash, which occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m.

"She had dropped off her child at school and was leaving the parking lot," said Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

Instead, the woman drove through the school's parking lot fence, down a 12- to 15-foot embankment and landed upside down, with her rear bumper on the roof of the house at 1241 Ala Pili Loop and the front of the car on a wall, Seelig said.

"She was upside down, still in the car, balancing there on the roof," Seelig said.

Firefighters first stabilized the car with wood supports to get the driver out, Seelig said. They then brought in a special ladder and had a firefighter attach cables and chains to the Jeep so a private tow operator could remove it around 11 a.m., Seelig said.
