Kuhio hula show moving to bandstand

Advertiser Staff

The daily hula show at Kuhio Beach is temporarily moving to the Kapi'olani Park bandstand beginning tonight, to allow the city to do renovation work on the hula mound at the beach site where the 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. sunset show is usually presented.

The nightly torch-lighting ceremony along Kalakaua Avenue presented by the Hawai'i Tourism Authority, Waikiki Improvement Association and the city, will not be affected.

The $120,000 renovation project, awarded to Paradigm Construction, is expected to be completed Aug. 31.

The project calls for improved pedestrian access to the mound and an artificial turf surface on the mound stage.

Construction of two concrete paths — one along the base of the stage and the other to the rear of the viewing area — will improve pedestrian access, city officials said.
