Kaua'i man pulled from water dies

A 53-year-old Koloa man who was pulled unconscious from waters off Prince Kuhio Beach Saturday died at Wilcox Hospital.

The man was not identified until next of kin was notified.

Police said the man was found floating face down at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday and was brought to shore by surfers in the area.

He was the fifth drowning victim on Kaua'i this year.


MAUI PEDESTRIAN HIT BY CAR, KILLED

A 33-year-old Ha'iku man died Saturday night at Maui Medical Center after being hit by a car while crossing Hana Highway at 10:45 p.m.

Maui police officers identified the man as Keolanalani Fonseca.

Pedestrians have accounted for two of Maui's four traffic fatalities in 2007.
