La Pietra, Hawai'i Baptist to meet for D-II state berth

NU'UANU — Megan Giles scored 11 points and Charity Caracol added nine as the La Pietra girls basketball team defeated Christian Academy 44-42 tonight at Hawai'i Baptist's gym in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II tournament semifinals for the league's fourth and final state berth.Ashley Medcalf led Christian Academy (5-10) with 27 points and Hanna Edwards added 11.
La Pietra (11-5) will face Hawai'i Baptist (8-7) in the finals on Thursday at McCabe Gym.
The host Eagles defeated Word of Life 37-36 on Keline Yoshimura's runner in the lane with 8 seconds left.
The Firebrands (3-12) managed an off-balance 3-point attempt as time expired.
Sacred Hearts, St. Francis and St. Andrew's have already clinched berths to the state tournament.
