Provider of groceries to Hawai'i to sell some assets

Advertiser Staff

Associated Grocers Inc., a wholesaler to grocery stores in Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Guam and Alaska, has tentatively agreed to sell certain assets to Unified Western Grocers Inc.

"This transaction benefits both organizations," said Alfred A. Plamann, president and chief executive officer, Unified Western Grocers, said in a news statement.

"Both companies are structured as cooperatives, both have a long history of successfully serving and supporting the growth of independent grocery retailers throughout the Pacific Northwest and both organizations and their shareholders can greatly benefit from the efficiencies and synergies that will result from a combination of these two companies.

The sale is subject to execution of a definitive purchase agreement and government approvals. The transaction is expected to close late this summer.
