Punahou's Jang, Maui's Kawano share first in state golf

Punahou's Anna Jang and Maui's Kelcie Kawano each shot 6-over 78s today to share the first-round lead in the state tournament.

The 2007 David Ishii / Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Girls Golf Championships is being played at Waikoloa Kings' Course on the Big Island.

The final round will be held tomorrow.

Jan had nines of 39-39 while Kawano shot 37-41.

Punahou's Katie Sisler was third with a 39-42—81. Baldwin's Dayna Bersamin (39-43—82) and Maui's Elyse Okada (42-40—82) were tied for fourth.

Defending champion Stephanie Kono is not playing in the tournament.

Punahou leads the team competition by 10 strokes.

The Buffanblu's top four scorers compiled a total of 246.

Maui is second at 256 and Waiakea third at 258.
