A verbal argument at a Kalihi rooming house escalated into a confrontation early today that led to one man being arrested for attempted murder and another for first-degree burglary.

Police arrested the two men today at 1732 Gulick Ave. between 12:45 and 1:30 a.m.

A 36-year-old man was booked for burglary on suspicion that he kicked in the door to a room occupied by another man, 51, who allegedly attacked the intruder with a steak knife.

The older man was arrested for attempted murder. The younger man was treated for cuts on his hand and released before being arrested.

Witnesses told police the pair had been arguing since 3 p.m. yesterday.
