Masked man wielding knife enters Big Island home

Police on the Big Island are searching for a masked man who was armed with a knife when he allegedly entered a home, confronted the occupant and made off with several items on Sunday night.

The burglary occurred in the Discovery Harbour subdivision in Ka'u. Police received a call of a burglary in progress at 9:41 p.m. on Hekau Street. The occupant of the home was forced to the ground by the masked man, but fled to a neighboring house and called police as the burglar ransacked his home. He was not injured in the robbery.

The suspect is described as 5 foot 8, about 165 pounds with a medium build and a dark complexion.

The investigation has been turned over to detectives from the Criminal Investigations Section in Area II.
