Buffanblu hope to continue state tennis dominance

Advertiser Staff

The Punahou boys and girls tennis teams hope the balls will bounce their way when the Carl Smith Ball/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association state championships begin today on Maui.

The Buffanblu boys have won the team title since 1991, while the Buffanblu girls have won the last four.

Punahou has the top seeds in boys and girls singles and doubles with three state champions returning.

Kristin Lim, last year's girls doubles champion with Ashley Ohira, is the top seed in singles. Lim's brothers, Robbie and Mikey, were singles champions for Punahou in 2002 and 2003 and 2005 and 2006.

Ohira and Nicole Nakaoka are this year's top-seeded doubles team.

Alex Chingwas last year's boys doubles title with Jon Wong. This year, Ching's partner is Erik Shoji, and they are seeded first. Skyler Tateishi of Punahou is the top seed in boys singles.
