Farmers, Trojans win MIL D-II tournament opener

WAILUKU — Tawney Fernandez scored 14 points to help the Moloka'i High School girls basketball team defeat Ka'ahumanu Hou 50-11 in the first round of the Maui Interscholastic League Division II tournament yesterday at War Memorial Gym.

The Farmers (7-4), the third seed, will face second-seeded Lana'i (6-4) in the semifinals today.

Taysha Mahiai scored nine points for Ka'ahumanu Hou (0-11).

Top-seeded Seabury Hall (10-0), which has already clinched a state berth, will meet fourth-seeded St. Anthony (6-5) in another semifinal today.

The Trojans defeated Hana 38-33 in another first round game yesterday at War Memorial.

Malia-Lani Chang scored 12 points in the win.

Cheyenne Kalama-Kekona had 11 points for the Dragons (3-8).
