The University of Hawai'i-Manoa is implementing a security bicycle patrol for the 300-acre campus, officials said at a news conference this morning.Four of the campus' 41 officers will patrol regular shifts on bicycles built to the same specifications as those used by Honolulu police officers.
The officers underwent a nationally certified training program, which included a 75-mile bike ride.
"Our response to situations will be quicker and we'll be out there among the students more," said UH-Manoa director of security Neal Sakamoto.
