Punahou sophomore Jang wins state girls golf title

Advertiser Staff

Punahou School sophomore Anna Jang defeated Maui junior Kelcie Kawano on the first playoff hole to win the state girls golf title.

Both players were tied after shooting first-round scores of 78 Tuesday at the David S. Ishii Foundation / Hawaii High School Athletic Association championship at windy Waikoloa Kings' Course on the Big Island.

Both shot 81 today for 159 totals with Kawano recording a birdie on the 18th to force a playoff.

But Jang parred the first playoff hole — No. 17th — to win the title.

Punahou senior Katie Sisler shot a final-round 7-over-par 79 to finish third at 160.

Both helped Punahou win the team title with a total score of 495. Waiakea finished second at 503.
