ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Directory debut

Advertiser Staff and News Services

For the second annual Maoli Arts Month, continuing through May, the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce has produced the first-ever directory of Native Hawaiian artists. The guide lists 84 artists, including traditional tattooist Keone Nuñes and light-fixture designer Mark Chai. Stylishly designed by Shane Pale, the guide is available at participating MAMo venues, and the Chamber of Commerce is distributing them to Island architects and hotels.

TAKE A WALK

But first, step into proper-fitting shoes

Walking is a magic bullet for good health and wellness. Regular moderate-intensity walking has all of the benefits of jogging and competitive sports. And even something as simple as walking requires the right gear. We recommend comfortable walking shoes, available at most department stores. You don't need to spend a fortune to place your feet on cloud nine. Try on several different pairs of shoes. Narrow down your choice to the two pairs that feel the best. Then place one shoe from each pair on your feet at the same time. Walk around. It will be obvious which shoe fits better. The shoe should be flexible, with no clunking. The heel should provide adequate support and cushion. Jogging shoes have soles that are wide, thick and supportive.

Next week: walking with your kids.
