UH-Hilo shuts down HPU in NCAA softball regional

Sarah Weisskopf pitched a one-hitter to lift Hawai'i-Hilo to a 2-0 victory over Hawai'i Pacific today in the first game of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship West Region tournament at Turlock, Calif.

Weisskopf (19-4), allowed a single to Ciera Senas to start the game and allowed a walk in the second. She struck out three.

Dana Lee led off with a single in the fifth inning and scored on a single by Vanessa Badosa. Haunani Haasenritter's 11th homer of the season in the sixth gave UH-Hilo its 2-0 lead.

UH-Hilo plays Seattle, while HPU plays Humboldt State tomorrow in the double-elimination tournament.
