Farm Bureau gets $450K to start crop-tracking program

The O'ahu chapter of the Hawaii Farm Bureau received $450,000 today from the Economic Development Alliance of Hawaii to launch a Radio-Frequency Identification Device (RFID) program that can track boxes of produce through the food supply chain from farms to retail grocery stores.The funds were provided by the Regional Economic Transition Assistance Hawaii program, which is run by the Economic Development Alliance of Hawaii.
A second two-phase grant totaling $500,000 was given to a Kaua'i farm group managed by Joe Munechika to restore agricultural water systems in west Kaua'i that are located on abandoned sugar lands adjacent to the Pacific Missile Test Range.
