Police ID Big Island man found dead after fall from cliff

Advertiser Staff

HILO, Hawai'i — Big Island police have identified a man who apparently died when his vehicle plummeted from a cliff in a Puna subdivision as 48-year-old Terrance Manion.

Manion was a resident of the subdivision Hawaiian Paradise Park, police said.

Police called to the scene at 12:31 p.m. yesterday found a 2004 Hummer had gone off the cliff and into the ocean off Beach Road, just south of Paradise Drive.

Manion's body was removed from the car by a Hawai'i Fire Department crew.

Police said it is unknown if drugs, alcohol or speed were involved in the crash, and have scheduled an autopsy for tomorrow.

Manion's death was not counted in the Big Island's official traffic fatality statistics because he did not die on a public roadway.
