Information sought on art theft from Hilo school

Advertiser Staff

Police are asking for help in trying to find the thief, or thieves, who stole art from the Connections Charter School at the Kress Building in Hilo on the Big Island.

A teacher at the school reported that the art pieces disappeared from the school's art gallery sometime between May 5 and 6. The drawings were made by students in the school's art program. They were displayed for public viewing on the lower level of the building, near the Kamehameha Avenue entrance.

The pieces consisted of a green chalk pastel drawing of a manta ray, a blue chalk and oil pastel drawing of two dolphins, a colored pencil drawing of an underwater scene, and a colored pencil drawing of seashells.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call the Police Department's nonemergency number at (808) 936-3311.

Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at (808) 961-8300 in Hilo or (808) 329-8181 in Kona. All CrimeStoppers information is kept confidential.
