Hawai'i junior Annett Wichmann captured her second consecutive Western Athletic Conference heptathlon title today at Warmerdam Field in Fresno, Calif.

Wichmann broke her school record with an NCAA automatic qualification mark of 5,557 points. The junior from Jena, Germany, broke her record by 144 points.

Wichmann, who captured the WAC indoor pentathlon title, is 3 for 3 in conference multi-events. Last May, Wichmann won her first WAC heptathlon at Cooke Field.

Wichmann today took first in the javelin (137 feet 8 inches, 41.97 meters) and 800-meter run (2 mintues, 19.97 seconds) events and finished second in the long jump (17-11.25, 5.47m). Her 2,220 points on day two was also a school record. Wichmann led after day one with a school-record 3,337 points. Her 5,557-point total ranks 10th nationally.

The Rainbow Wahine are in second place with 12 points, trailing Idaho (15), who had three athletes place in the top eight in the heptathlon.

The WAC Championship ends Saturday.
