Pedestrian safety vigil to focus on awareness

Advertiser Staff

AARP volunteers will be posted at 10 busy intersections on O'ahu today to raise awareness about pedestrian safety.

The volunteers will pass out leaflets during morning, mid-day and afternoon rush hours. Police officers will join volunteers, handing out mock citations to pedestrians who break the law. The event is part of AARP's annual Day of Service, which is observed around the country.

Also today, AARP will hold a candlelight vigil and speak-out at Kawaiaha'o Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Participants will talk about how to make their communities safer, and remember those who lost their lives while trying to cross O'ahu roadways. Candles will be provided, and participants will receive a free reflective wrist band.
