Advertiser Staff

Tadd Fujikawa moved a step closer to playing in his second U.S. Open when he won the lone qualifying spot at the O'ahu qualifier yesterday. Fujikawa shot a 5-under-par 67 at Turtle Bay's Fazio Course to beat out 19 others.

In the women's qualifier, Jennifer Song, from South Korea, fired a 69 and Maui's Kyung Kim (73) and Kaua'i's Miki Ueoka (74) earned the three qualifying spots.

Fujikawa will move on to a sectional in Japan. If he finishes among the top three there, he advances to the U.S. Open June 14-17 at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Song will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open at a sectional in Daly City, Calif. Kim and Ueoka will be back at Turtle Bay's Palmer Course for the Hawai'i sectional.

The U.S. Women's Open is June 28 to July 1 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in North Carolina. Hawai'i's Kimberly Kim and Michelle Wie are already in the final field.

Castle graduate Dean Wilson is in the men's field.
