New School Street signal to aid in pedestrian crossings

Advertiser Staff

The new pedestrian traffic signals on North School Street in Lanakila fronting St. Theresa's School will be constantly flashing beginning today to alert motorists of the presence of the lights.

The signals will begin normal operations about 9 a.m. Tuesday. Because they're at a mid-block crosswalk, pedestrians who wish to cross must press the button to trigger the walk signal.

"This is part of our effort to improve pedestrian safety island-wide," said Mayor Mufi Hannemann. "We can't do it alone, of course, and we urge motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution on the road at all times."
