Brushfire extinguished near Kona center for elderly

Big Island firefighters today took about 90 minutes to contain a brushfire that burned 1.5 acres of pasture land behind the Regency at Hualalai, a Kailua-Kona retirement and senior living center.Hawai'i County fire Capt. Grant Kojima said the origin of the fire was suspicious because of reports that several juveniles were seen leaving the area as fire companies arrived.
The fire was reported at 12:18 p.m. and was under control at 1:28 p.m.
