New traffic light on School Street in effect tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

A new traffic light will begin normal operations at North School Street in Lanakila fronting St. Theresa's School at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Since Saturday, the signals were constantly flashing to alert motorists of the presence of the lights at a mid-block crosswalk.

A city spokesman said pedestrians who wish to cross must press the button to trigger the walk signal. Community members had been lobbying for a light there for years.

A 92-year-old man was critically injured while using the crosswalk there in March, prompting complaints from those who had been calling for the lights.
