Short circuit causes $25K in fire damage to home

Advertiser Staff

A electrical short circuit at a bathroom light switch triggered a fire on the Big Island just after 9 p.m. last night, Hawai'i County firefighters said.

The fire started inside the bathroom wall, traveled upward into the ceiling and downward to the lower floor of the two-story, four-bedroom residence.

Three engines responded to the call at 86-4465 Highway 11 in the Captain Cook district and brought the fire under control within 13 minutes. It was deemed extinguished at 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported from the fire, which caused an estimated $25,000 in damage.
