Barnwell Industries posts decline in 1st-quarter profit

Barnwell Industries Inc., a Honolulu-based real estate company that also operates an oil and natural gas business in North America, said profit for 2007's first three months fell to $1.26 million, or 15 cents a share, from a year earlier.

In the 2006 period, it earned $2.37 million, or 27 cents a share, helped by recognition of tax benefits of $1.96 million. The company also announced its board had declared a cash dividend of 5 cents a share, payable June 15 to shareholders of record as of June 1.
