A man was killed tonight in a drive-by shooting on Kane'ohe Bay Drive near Namoku Street, triggering a police manhunt for three suspects in Hale'iwa.

The shooting was reported at 9:58 p.m. and by 11 p.m., police had located the suspect vehicle, a white Ford Crown Victoria, in the parking lot of Jameson's by the Sea.

Following up on a report of the suspect vehicle filling gas at a convenience store in Ka'a'awa, police located and pursued the Crown Victoria into Hale'iwa town shortly after 11 p.m.

The car, registered to a Maui man, was traveling over 70 miles an hour in an attempt to flee from police.

It was found abandoned minutes later in the parking lot of Jameson's by the Sea.

Witnesses told police three men fled toward homes in the area and a bus driver told police the men tried to get on his bus.

One suspect was in custody by 11:30 p.m.

Another was believed to be in a stream near a service station in town and a third in the area of Joseph P. Leong Highway.

Police recovered firearms in the Crown Victoria, including a Mac-10.

Police were combing the area around Hale'iwa at 11:50 p.m. looking for two suspects. A canine unit and police helicopter were en route to assist.

The shooting victim was taken in critical condition to Castle Medical Center, according to Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic. Police later reported the man had died.

Police said the suspect vehicle was being driven by a Hispanic man with tattoos wearing a white shirt.

Police said three suspects were involved in the shooting. The weapon used was described as a black gun with a large magazine clip, 6-8 inches long. Police recovered 9mm shell casings at the scene.
