Bridge reopens with new deck

Advertiser Staff

The single-lane wooden Kapahi Bridge reopened Friday after major repairs.

The aged structure, crosses Kapa'a Stream below its junctions with Mo'alepe, Makaleha and Kapahi streams. It had been closed for a month for the renovation.

County officials said the major part of the work involved replacement of the wooden bridge deck, but the project also included the rust removal, repainting of metal girders and other repairs.

The bridge, with its white wooden railings, has a 5-ton weight limit.
