Parking lot work to begin

Advertiser Staff

Construction to convert the city's metered lot between 11th and 12th avenues into an attended lot will begin as early as this week.

The first phase will include installing fencing, vending equipment and attendant booths.

During construction, only portions of the lot will be closed to public parking, said Darin Mar, a traffic engineer and Kaimuki resident.

"We'll try and work with minimal impact," Mar said.

The project will add up to 30 more stalls and raise the cost of parking after the first two hours to discourage long-term users.

It now costs 75 cents an hour to park there.

Conversion of the lot could take up to a year.
