A 27-year-old man from Oakland was pronounced dead today after Honolulu Fire Department divers located his body in the murky water at Waimea Falls.

HFD spokesman Capt. Robert Main said Rescue 1 scuba divers recovered the body at 12:54 p.m. from a depth of 26 feet. Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene made the pronouncement at 1:08 p.m., according to EMS spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

A fire company from Sunset Beach responded to 11:10 a.m. call for assistance but did not have scuba equipment, said Main.

An autopsy tomorrow will try to determine cause and manner of death.
