Former Kaua'i exec to head Public Housing Authority

Advertiser Staff

A former housing administrator for Kaua'i County has been named executive director of the Hawai'i Public Housing Authority.

Chad Taniguchi will start tomorrow, overseeing more than 6,000 federal and state public housing apartments statewide, managing rent supplement programs and providing contracts to various nonprofits for services and shelter programs to the homeless.

Taniguchi served as the housing administrator of the Kaua'i County Housing Agency from 1990 to 1994. From 1995 to 2000, worked for the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands in Lihu'e.

He has also served as director of workforce development for the University of Hawai'i Community Colleges system, and also interim dean of the Communications and Services Programs for Honolulu Community College.

Taniguchi was selected after a national search by the Hawai'i Public Housing Authority's board. The previous housing director, Stephanie Aveiro, resigned last year and the agency has been led by interim director Patti Miyamoto since.
