Water main break in Lanikai under repair

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu Board of Water supply crews are making repairs to a water main break near the entrance to Lanikai.

As of 9:15 p.m., 20 homes remained without water, agency spokeswoman Tracy Burgo said. A water wagon was posted at 805 Aaalapapa Drive.

The break in the 12-inch main occurred at 751 Aalapapa Drive about 4 p.m., sending foot-deep water flowing across nearby Mokulua Drive. Traffic initially was moving slowly through the area and police were on hand to monitor the situation.

Burgo said crews need to replace a five-foot section of the pipe. The agency hoped to have the road fully reopened by Wednesday morning's rush hour, she said.

The Board of Water Supply is scheduled to begin permanent replacement of water mains in the Lanikai area next month, Burgo said.
