Bartlett, Pa'iaina top paddlers

Maui's Kai Bartlett and Honolulu's Kea Pa'iaina won the one-person canoe (OC-1) division of the Kaua'i World Challenge Saturday.

They completed the 34-mile course from Wailua Beach to Salt Pond in 3 hours, 41 minutes, 46 seconds. The course was separated into four legs, and each paddler had to complete two legs.

Maui Kjeldsen of Kaua'i and Manny Kulukulualani of Hono-lulu placed second in 3:42:37. California paddlers Danny Ching and Tyson Poppler were third in 3:53:10.

Australian paddlers Lisa Curry-Kenny and Amanda Ozolins were the first female team to finish with a time of 4:25:42.

O'ahu paddlers Dolan Eversole and Matt Dubrule were the first to finish on a surfski with a time of 3:42:03.


SURFING

NO GO IN TAHITI

Competition in the Billabong Pro Tahiti was postponed yesterday due to insufficient conditions at Teahupoo, Tahiti.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and final are expected to be completed today or tomorrow.

Kaua'i's Andy Irons is scheduled to face Australia's Joel Parkinson in a quarterfinal heat. Irons is the only Hawai'i surfer remaining.


BASKETBALL

UH CAMP AT HONOKA'A

The University of Hawai'i women's program will conduct a youth camp for kindergarteners through 12th graders next month at Honoka'a Parks & Recreation Center.

The camp will focus on individual development with a focus on fundamentals. Skill sessions will be broken down by position.

A skills camp will be held June 7 (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), and June 8 and 9 (9 a.m. to noon). An elite camp will be held June 7 (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.), and June 8 and 9 (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.). Cost is $40 per camper.

Applications are available at www.HawaiiAthletics.com. Application and payment must be sent to: University of Hawai'i Wahine Basketball, 1337 Lower Campus Road, Honolulu, HI 96822. First day registration and check-in will be 30 minutes before scheduled start time.

WENDLAND QUALIFIES

Alva Wendland shot a 3-under-par 69 yesterday to win the U.S. Open local qualifier at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.

Mark Morrison (70) and Sean Maekawa (71) are the alternates for the sectional qualifier next month.
