Triathlons to affect weekend Waikiki traffic, parking

You may want to avoid Waikiki this weekend.

There will be a charity walk and keiki triathlon Saturday and another triathlon Sunday, all in Waikiki.

Here are the details:

  • The 29th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk 2007 will take place Saturday, with more than 9,000 participants. The 6-mile walk through Waikiki will start at 7 a.m. at Ala Moana Beach Park. Walkers will head down Ala Moana Boulevard, through Waikiki via Kalakaua Avenue, up Kapahulu Avenue and back to Ala Moana Beach Park via Ala Wai Boulevard. The event is expected to end at 1 p.m. For more information about the walk, visit www.charitywalkhawaii.org.

  • The Honolulu Keiki Triathlon will take place Saturday, with about 150 participants. The race will start at 7 a.m. at Kalakaua Avenue near Kapi'olani Park. The event is expected to end at 10 a.m. For more information visit www.honolulutriathlon.com.

  • The Honolulu Triathlon 2007 will take place Sunday, with about 2,000 participants. The event will have a staggered start with the swim portion at 5:45 a.m. at Ala Moana Beach Park. The bike course will be held on the makai side of Ala Moana Boulevard from the park to Nimitz Highway, under the viaduct, past the airport to the turnaround at the Arizona Memorial and back. Lanes on Ala Moana Boulevard and Nimitz Highway will be closed from 4 a.m. For more information visit www.honolulutriathlon.com.

    Drivers should expect delays or take alternate routes.
