Officer shoots dog in Kane'ohe

Advertiser Staff

Police Internal Affairs is investigating an officer's shooting of a dog today at Ko Place, a cul de sac in Kane'ohe.

According to neighbors, the mixed-breed dog which was shot was among a group that had gotten loose at about 3:30 p.m.

The dogs threatened a woman, who suffered minor injuries. The woman is the wife of an assistant police chief, according to neighbors.

Police were called and the dog was shot when it made a threatening move toward an officer. The dog was taken to an animal hospital.

Neighbors said the dogs are owned by man who recently died. A family member, who is a banana farmer, had just returned home with the dogs to wash them down when they got away.

Internal Affairs is involved because a police firearm was involved.
