By Catherine E. Toth
Advertiser Urban Honolulu Writer

Lyon Arboretum is celebrating Endangered Species Day on Friday with educational activities in the gardens and labs.

Guided tours start at 10 a.m.

The botanical garden is also holding a poster contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

The U.S. Senate has unanimously declared May 18, 2007, Endangered Species Day, a national celebration of America's commitment to protecting and recovering our nation's endangered species. In Hawai'i, there are more endangered species per square mile than any other place in the world.
