An inmate at the Halawa Correctional Facility was charged yesterday with auto theft stemming from an investigation started last December.

According to police, Alan Kahele Hudcovic, 31, was driving a stolen car that crashed into a tree on Dec. 21. Hudcovic was taken to The Queen's Medical Center with serious injuries but fled from the hospital on foot the next day.

Investigators located Hudcovic Tuesday in prison, where he is serving time for a felony offense unrelated to the Dec. 21 case.

Hudcovic was charged yesterday with auto theft. His bail is $20,000.

Hudcovic has eight prior convictions, according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records.
