Aiona to speak at Sacred Hearts awards gathering

Lt. Gov. James Aiona will be the keynote speaker at the Sacred Hearts Academic Athletic Awards Convocation.

The event is 5 p.m. today at Sacred Hearts gym.

Aiona will highlight Sacred Hearts' team successes and recognize individual contributions. Sacred Hearts athletic program.

Some of the accomplishments include:

-- Claiming the top spot for air riflery for the fifth time in eight years at the state tournament;

-- Winning Division II championships in softball and volleyball;

-- Going unbeaten (13-0) in league play in girls basketball and earning the top seed in the Division II state tournament.

-- Winning the league junior varsity and Intermediate basketball titles;

-- Winning the ILH intermediate soccer champions, laying the groundwork for the Academy fielding a varsity team next year.

Members of SHA sports teams will individually and collectively be presented certificates, letters, pins and medallions signifying their level and years of participation on the Varsity level.

The team plays Kailua at 8 p.m. in a state high school Division II quarterfinal game at McKinley today.
