Water main repaired at Lanikai entrance

Advertiser Staff

A Honolulu Board of Water Supply crew repaired a broken water main overnight near the entrance to Lanikai in time for this morning's traffic.

The break in the 12-inch main occurred at 751 Aalapapa Drive about 4 p.m., sending foot-deep water flowing across nearby Mokulua Drive. Traffic moved slowly through the area, and police were on hand to monitor the situation.

BWS spokeswoman Tracy Burgo said crews were replacing a five-foot section of pipe. Twenty homes were without water last night, and a water wagon was set up at 805 Aalapapa Drive.

The Board of Water Supply is scheduled to begin permanent replacement of water mains in the Lanikai area next month, Burgo said.
