LAWA'I
Flute stroll to valley shrines

Advertiser Staff

Riley Lee will perform on the shakuhachi, or Japanese bamboo flute, from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Lawa'i International Center's seventh annual Pilgrimage for Compassion.

The public is invited to hear taiko drumming and then walk along the 88 Buddhist shrines in the valley as Lee plays.

The shrines were built by early Japanese immigrants and commemorate the 88 temples of a traditional pilgrimage route in Shikoku, Japan.

Participants are urged to car pool, and bring sturdy shoes and an umbrella.
