Kenny Patton had the numbers — 4.46 seconds over 40 yards; 41 1/2-inch vertical jump — but, in the end, fell short in the numbers game.

The Oakland Raiders yesterday waived the former University of Hawai'i cornerback, who had signed as a free agent.

"Now I have to play the waiting game," Patton said. "It was a great opportunity. I have to see if my agent can get me another one."

Patton was one of nine cornerbacks on the Raiders' 90-player mini-camp roster. They needed to pare the roster to 80 by this weekend.

Patton said he knows it will be difficult to join another NFL team soon. "Teams aren't looking to add players at this point," he said.

But by signing a free-agent contract with the Raiders last week, he is eligible to play in NFL Europa.

"I'm going to train, train, train, and see what happens," Patton said. "There's no use getting down. 'Positivity' is the key."
